Kalki 2898 AD is a Telugu language epic epic science fiction film written and directed by Nag Ashwin. Story Plot Line
Kalki, A modern-day incarnation of Lord Vishnu, awakened by Ashottathama’s prayer. Kalki’s mission is to save the world from the evil forces of Kali, his enemies, using advanced technology, armor, and weapons.
Pre-Production And Development
The film’s development and production journey had its share of challenges. Announced in February 2020, on the occasion of Vijayanti Movies’ 50th anniversary, the production faced a one-year delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming began in July 2021 on a futuristic set in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City.
With a staggering budget of ₹600 crore, Kulki 2898 AD is one of the most expensive Indian films of all time. Santosh Narayanan composed the music, Djordje Stojaljkovic handled the cinematography, and Nitin Zahani Chaudhary served as the production designer.
Casting
The film’s cast includes renowned actors from various film industries, making it an eagerly awaited project. Deepika Padukone makes her debut in Telugu cinema, and Amitabh Bachchan stars in a pivotal role. Disha Patani also joins the cast, making her comeback to Telugu cinema.
Filming
Pre-production required advanced technology and futuristic vehicle development, and businessman Anand Mahindra was enlisted for this purpose. The team created an impressive futuristic set in Hyderabad, enhancing the film’s visual appeal.
Initially, AR Rahman was approached to compose the music, but Santhosh Narayanan eventually bagged the role. The film’s unique shooting schedule, with 7-8 days off each month, allowed for careful preparation of the gadgets and properties used in the sci-fi film.
Principal photography began in July 2021, with a target to complete filming by January 2023. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the production timeline was extended, and some scenes were still being shot in March 2023.
Marketing
The film’s marketing received a boost when it was announced that a panel featuring key cast members including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Nag Ashwin would be held at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2023. The panel gave a glimpse of that. The film and the official title will be revealed on July 20.
Release
Initially planned for a 2022 release, Kalki 2898 AD will finally hit theaters on May 9, 2024, with a global release in multiple languages including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and English.
